Amy Jo has been bellydancing since 2003. She began her journey studying American Cabaret bellydance, and quickly found a great deal of personal inspiration and beauty in the growing movement of tribal fusion bellydance. She continues to study fusion styles, American Cabaret, folkloric and Oriental styles, and believes in the importance of understanding the history of the dance form and its musical influences. She has studied under many dancers, and believes wholeheartedly in being a continuing student. In addition to tribal fusion styles, she has also studied American Tribal Style, UNMATA’s Improvisational Tribal Style, and loves the interaction and group dynamics behind Group Improvisational styles. She believes movement is an especially powerful way to reconnect with oneself and feel good in body and brain. In class she strives to challenge her students while encouraging laughter and hard work!
As an instructor, Amy Jo has been the director of Duende Bellydance for 9 years, teaching beginner classes through troupe rehearsals. She also recently had the pleasure of teaching a sold-out class at 3rd Coast Tribal. She is also an experienced performer and choreographer. She has a great deal of experience working with students of all levels one-on-one for private lessons to help them meet their dance goals – whether that be to have fun, perform professionally, write a choreography, or get some exercise.
